Kingston Crescent

Kingston Crescent is a small residential area nestled inside a tight curve of the Red River.

It is a subdivision of the larger neighbourhood known as Elm Park. This exclusive gem is centrally located and comprises only one road in and one road out, making it an ideal neighbourhood for families with young children playing outside. Ask anyone who lives in the community, and they will tell you that they have found their own slice of peace and quiet within the heart of the city!

Real Estate Trends

Kingston Crescent is best known for its riverfront lots along the Crescent and on the north side of Kingston Row. An array of different types of homes grace these beautiful lots. Most were built in the early 1930s, and as the area has evolved, newer homes are being constructed on select lots. The homes in this community are characterized by front-drive access, beautiful original features, unique architecture, and stunning curb appeal. Although the majority are single detached houses, you can find condominiums overlooking the golf course bordering Kingston Crescent along Dunkirk Drive. Homes vary in price and rarely hit the market due to the community's small and exclusive nature.

Schools & Services

Kingston Crescent is within the Louis Riel School Division. There are no schools within the community borders, so students will attend schools in neighbouring communities.

English track students will go to Windsor School, a Kindergarten to Grade Eight elementary school in Elm Park.

Their high school option will be Glenlawn Collegiate Institute, situated on the corner of Fermor Avenue and St Mary’s Road. For those choosing French Immersion Programming, École Varennes will be the elementary catchment school from Kindergarten to Grade Eight. In High School, students attend Collège Jeanne-Sauvé, located in River Park South. 

The community is a 20-minute drive (or less) from most of Winnipeg’s post-secondary institutions.  The University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus and the Université de Saint-Boniface being the closest to Kingston Crescent. 

Hospitals

There are no hospitals within the community, however you are only a 13-minute drive away from St. Boniface Hospital and about a 15-minute commute from Victoria General Hospital. The community is also a stone’s throw away from the Riverview Health Centre.

Shopping

Kingston Crescent is strictly residential homes.  However, it is in close proximity to all of the amenities you could need for your everyday living.

Just over the Saint Vital Bridge in Lord Roberts is Safeway. The corner of St Anne’s and Fermor Avenue are home to a Real Canadian Superstore, a Dollarama and Freshco. Driving a bit further on Fermor Avenue you will reach Southdale Centre, Southdale Market and Southdale Square. These shopping venues consist of retailers like Walmart, Red River Co-Op, Dollarama, Giant Tiger, Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drugmart and more.  Driving south on Dunkirk Drive you are just minutes away from St Vital Centre and all the stores it has to offer, like London Drugs, Walmart, Sport Check, Red River Co-op, Marshalls and HomeSense, Old Navy, Hudson Bay and Zellers and so much more.  The corner of St Anne’s Road and Abinoji Mikanah offers a Sobeys, a Michaels and a Home Depot.

Entertainment & Recreation

The real appeal of living in the neighbourhood of Kingston Crescent is the peace and tranquility you are surrounded with. There are two small parks within the community. Located in the heart of Kingston Crescent is Kingston Park that consist of a playground and a pop-up rink in the winter.

Norfolk Park is small green area with a bench – the perfect spot for those who just want to sit back and enjoy the surroundings.

Elm Park Bridge, often called BDI Bridge, is a famous landmark connecting Kingston Crescent to Lord Roberts. This bridge was built in 1912 and opened in 1914. It is one of the oldest bridges still standing in Winnipeg today. Initially, it was built to allow 2-way traffic but was closed to vehicles in 1974 and now serves as a pedestrian bridge. What this bridge is famous for today its proximity to Bridge Drive-In or 'BDI' as it is known to Winnipeggers. This popular ice cream destination opened in 1957 and hasn’t stop being a favorite summer spot to many.

The area of Kingston Crescent used to be forested by majestic elm trees, however due to the Dutch elm diseases these trees disappeared. The last tree, which stood at the Elm Park Bridge was removed in 2022 and turned into a wooden bear sculpture. Dancing Golden Bear is a connection to the forest and a reminder to look after Earth. You can’t miss it when you returning to the community from your ice cream journey.

Kingston Crescent has no recreational facilities within its borders but there is a magnitude of thing to do just outside its little bubble. To start, there are four community centers with a variety of activities less than 10 minutes away.

Windsor Community Centre is the closest to the area and offer activities for residents of all ages from Kingston Crescent,Elm Park and surrounding areas. It consists of a soccer field, a tennis court, a playground, a toboggan run and outdoor rinks during the winter season.

Norberry Glenlee Community Centre offers a wide variety of programs to choose from such as indoor and outdoor soccer, hockey, basketball, softball, pickleball and more.

Lord Roberts Community Centre includes a youth lounge, a tv lounge, a social hall, a dance studio, a boardroom and a gymnasium. These facilities are available for rent and offer programs for all ages. Additionally, there are two baseball diamonds, a kids play structure and a hockey rink for outdoor activities.

Riverview Community Centre offers fields and courts for baseball, soccer, basketball and tennis. It also has a playground, a wading pool and outdoor hockey rinks.

Need more variety? Fort Rouge Leisure Centre is also close to the neighbourhood and provides great indoor and outdoor experiences. It is home to an indoor hockey arena, a soccer field and tennis courts.

St. Vital Memorial Park is an outdoor sport facility that is also home to the recently updated Bonivital Soccer Clubhouse. The park includes the Saint Vital Memorial Park Turf Field, additional soccer fields, a beach volleyball court, Track and Field space, a shelter, and its new addition, the Emily Potter Court. The basketball court opened in the summer of 2023 in honour of the 100th anniversary of Glenlawn Collegiate Institute.

Adjacent to the Park is the YMCA – South Branch that consists of amenities like a lounge, a pool, a water slide, a cycle studio, turf area, an indoor playground, cardio equipment, hot tub, a steam room and so much more.  It offers a variety of fitness classes, group exercise, swimming lessons among many others. It is an adult day program site, offering an array of activities for seniors to socialize with others in a supportive environment.

If you are a serious golfer, there are many offerings for you. Canoe Club Golf Course is located just on the border but the St. Boniface Golf Club, Windsor Park Golf Course and Nordic Centre, as well as the Niakwa Country Club are also within close proximity to the neighbourhood.

Planning a night out?  The Park Theatre is a live entertainment venue located just minutes away on Osborne Street. This renovated movie theatre provides over 300 events a year by local and international artists.
