Mission Gardens

Mission Gardens is a small and relatively newer residential neighbourhood in the greater Transcona area, which is known for its connection to the railway and its abundance of parks.

Mission Gardens features attractive green spaces and plenty of reasonably-priced, detached family homes. Originally part of the old City of Transcona before amalgamating into the City of Winnipeg in 1972, the area is bordered by Plessis Road on the east, Dugald Road and the Canadian National Railways' Redditt line on the south, the Central Manitoba Railway's Pine Falls line on the west and Pandora Avenue West on the north.

Real Estate Trends

Mission Gardens is a very small portion of the broader Transcona area. Its houses do tend to come at a slight premium when compared to similar homes actually in Transcona, albeit price will depend on proximity to the rail lines. Prices for residential homes range anywhere from around $180,000 for an attached home up to $500,000 for larger, newer construction homes. Common house styles in the area tend to be 70's - 80's builds of bungalow, bi-levels, split-levels and two-storey layouts, but there has been much more recent development in the area that offers a variety of other floor plans: cab-overs, two-storey splits, etc. For the lifestyle choice of condominiums, Mission Gardens does offer some condo options but the options within the area are more limited and often consist of two-storey floorplans. The condominiums offer easy access to all the amenities and transportation offered in this neighbourhood.

Schools & Services

Mission Gardens belongs to the River East Transcona School Division, and hosts one school in the area. The Bernie Wolfe Community School provides instruction for elementary students from kindergarten to Grade 8 and features an indoor pool that is open to the public.

There are no major hospitals in the immediate area. However, the neighbourhood is less than 7 kilometers from the Concordia Hospital. The Concordia Hospital is part of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and partners with health care agencies and providers to serve the community of northeast Winnipeg.

Shopping

Mission Gardens is mostly residential homes but it is in close proximity to amazing shopping located along Regent Avenue.  Kildonan Place Shopping Centre, with more than 100 stores and services available is a popular destination for those living in the area.  It is the largest enclosed shopping centre in the northeast quadrant of the city. The centre is anchored by. Surrounding the Kildonan Place Mall, there are a number of large retail outlets including; Costco, Canadian Tire, Winners, Home Depot, Superstore, Walmart, among others.

Features include a pro shop, golf lessons, and clubhouse. The Golf Club has earned the reputation of being “Beautiful, Challenging & Affordable”. Golf Central is another golf facility with close proximity to Mission Gardens, located at 775 Plessis Road. It has 20 outdoor heated tee boxes as well as 4 virtual golf simulators.

The Bernie Wolfe Pool is another popular destination within the community.  Located inside the Bernie Wolfe Community School, this indoor pool gives residents a convenient place for a quick dip or swimming lessons. Playground and parking facilities are available on site.

The Bernie Wolfe Park is another great way to get out and have some fun. It is located next to Bernie Wolfe Community School and offers a playground, baseball diamonds, and soccer field for the residents within the community.

Just outside of Mission Gardens, are many of the popular amenities offered for all residents of Transcona, some of which include: a number of playgrounds, parks, splash pads, outdoor rinks, three major community clubs and two indoor arenas. Park City West, Oxford Heights, and East End Community Clubs organize a variety of recreational activities, while East End and Roland Michener arenas host most on-ice activities. Roland Michener Arena is the home to the MMJHL (Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League) team Transcona Railors.

Transcona is fortunate enough to have The Transcona Trail, and the South Transcona Community Path. The Transcona Trail is a multi-use asphalt path that is 6.7 kilometer in length and used by walkers, runners and cyclists. It follows a variety of hydro lines along Manitoba Hydro right of way. It starts at Regent Avenue and runs to Ravelston where you’ll find the entrance to the Rotary Tall Gross Nature Park (corner of Ravelston Avenue and Bradley Street). The South Transcona Community Path provides a fully separated walking and cycling path along Dugald Road. It runs from the intersection of Terracon Place and Dugald Road out to the suburb of South Transcona. The path is 3.5 meters wide asphalt surface and is 4.2 kilometers in length. Both trails pass through a number of different parks as well as off leash dog parks.

The Transcona Kinsmen Centennial Pool is a newer addition to the neighbourhood with phase two having opened in the summer of 2017. It is located at 1101 Wabasha Street, at the corner of Kildare Avenue East and Wabasha Street.  This pool replaces the former outdoor pool and adds on to the existing splash pad.  It is now a fully-functioning outdoor aquatic facility! Other features that were put in place include the new beach entry with spray features, a four-slide water slide feature with landing pool, diving boards, seating areas and landscaping.  Fun tidbit: this new waterpark is now the largest waterpark in all of Winnipeg!

Club Regent Casino is located at 1425 Regent Avenue West. It is one of two casinos in the city (the other being the McPhillips Street Station Casino), both are owned and operated by the Manitoba Lotteries Corporation, and in turn, the Government of Manitoba. The casino opened in 1993, after an assessment regarding the distribution of gambling revenue, was released. \Connected to the casino is the Canad Inns Club Regent Hotel. The casino contains a McDonald’s restaurant, as well as a concert stage, on which regular comedy, and musical performances are scheduled.
