Tyndall Park

Tyndall Park is a large and diverse community in the north-west quadrant of Winnipeg.

Multiple parks and paths make this neighbourhood family-friendly with many schools in and around the community. It offers all the amenities from grocery stores to recreational facilities. Its close proximity to the Perimeter Highway provides a quick and easy escape to lake country, too!

Real Estate Trends

The bulk of the construction in Tyndall Park happened from the 1960’s to the 1990’s. The neighbourhood is made up of mostly single-detached homes with some semi-detached construction options in between.  There are a variety of layouts to choose from such as bungalows, two storeys, bi-levels. There are very few  townhouse-style condominium options in the neighbourhood however there was less than five condo sales in the neighbourhood in 2022. 

 

Schools & Services

Tyndall Park is within the Winnipeg School Division. There are four schools that provide English elementary education in the neighbourhood. Your catchment area will depend on where you live within the neighbourhood. The best space to check which catchment area your home is in, is through the Winnipeg School Division website.

Prairie Rose School, Ecole Garden Grove School and Tyndall Park Community School offer Kindergarten to Grade Six programming. Students from these schools will go to Ecole Stanley Knowles dual track school from Grade Seven to Grade Eight and complete their English high school diploma at Ecole Secondaire Sisler High School. Some children in the neighbourhood will attend Ecole Stanley Knowles School from Kindergarten to Grade Eight and then go to Ecole Secondaire Sisler High School. 

French Immersion programming is available in Tyndall Park as well. Students will attend Ecole Stanley Knowles School from Kindergarten to Grade Eight or at Ecole Garden Grove School from Kindergarten to Grade Six. Students from Ecole Garden Grove School will go to Stanley Knowles for their middle school education. They will also then attend Ecole Secondaire Sisler High School for their high school diploma.

Lansdowne school offers French Milieu classes from Kindergarten to Grade Eight. Children wishing to stay on the Milieu track will go to College Churchill High School in Riverview for middle and high school years. 

Students in Tyndall Park are also qualified to attend Wolseley School, which is an alternative elementary school.

Post Secondary Programs

The community is close to many post-secondary options. Red River College Polytechnic Notre Dame Campus is the most convenient. It is about a 10-minute drive from Tyndall Park. The Stevenson Campus is only 4-minute drive, while the Exchange District Campus is an additional 8-minute drive from there. The University of Manitoba Bannatyne Campus and the University of Winnipeg are both within a 20-minute commute from the community.

Hospitals

There is no hospital within the borders of of Tyndall Park, however the Seven Oaks Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre are both less than a 20-minute drive away!

Shopping

Tyndall Park has more limited shopping to offer within its immediate borders. Tyndall Market is a smaller shopping centre that houses a Safeway, a Liquor Mart, banking options and other services. Keewatin Place is a strip mall on the corner of Keewatin Street and Inkster and offers Gill’s Supermarket, restaurants, some ethnic shopping options and services. 

A larger variety of grocery stores can be found just 10 minutes away, in St James Industrial. This area consists of a Costco, Walmart, the Real Canadian Superstore, furniture retailers and more. Driving a little bit further you will reach St James Station, Plaza at Polo and Manitoba’s largest shopping mall, CF Polo Park. You will find a variety of stores between these shopping centres such as Save on Foods, Michaels, Best Buy, Winners & HomeSense, Mark’s, Marshalls, Canadian Tire, Hudson Bay just to name a few.

Tyndall Park is also within close proximity to many shopping centres along McPhillips Street. North Gate Shopping Centre, Garden City Shopping Centre and Garden City Square offer a wide variety of retailers like Save on Foods, Seafood City, Canadian Tire, Michaels, Winners, The Home Depot, Marshalls & HomeSense and plenty more.  There are additional standalone options along McPhillips Street such as The Real Canadian Superstore, Walmart and a Freshco.

Entertainment And Recreation

Tyndall Park has plenty of green spaces and recreational facilities for you and your family to enjoy. Albina Fuga Park, Fairgrove Window Park and Finestone Park are playgrounds. George Heshka Park and Burrows – Cutler Greenspace offer great outdoor spaces with beautiful lakeviews.

The larger parks in the neighbourhood consist of athletic fields, play areas and additional features. Fairgrove Bay Park is located behind Ecole Stanley Knowles. It has four soccer fields, a baseball diamond, a basketball and a beach volleyball court. Egesz Park and Kinver Park have soccer pitches. Garden Grove Park is made up of fields for soccer and baseball. Walsall Park has additional opportunities for baseball but also includes a splashpad and a wading pool.

Little Mountain Park is a larger park just a couple of minutes away from the neighbourhood, and has a wide selection of outdoor activities to offer. This park features maple trees, an aspen forest, native prairie grasses interspersed with hiking and cross-country skiing trails. It is rich in wildlife; you can often see owls, foxes, squirrels and sometimes deer, too! This greenery has a large off-leash dog park, public washrooms, shelter, barbeque pits and picnic site surrounding the old quarry pits that have now formed into a scenic pond.  It is really a great place to spend a summer day with your family.

Adjacent to the park is the Little Mountain Sportsplex, one of Manitoba’s premiere multi-sports facilities that consists of three full-sized hockey rinks, two full-sized soccer fields, ten ultimate disc fields, 28 softball diamonds and a large clubhouse with patio and picnic area.

If you looking for a more organized, community-based recreational facility, Tyndall Park Community Centre offers multiple sports programs including baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer.  The Centre houses two baseball diamonds, a cricket pitch, six soccer fields, outdoor hockey rinks during the winter season, basketball courts, wading pool and a play structure in the summer.

Just beyond the border from Tyndall Park is Billy Mosienko Arena, an indoor ice rink operated by the City of Winnipeg.  The facility is home to the annual Foodtrip Market Festival. Behind the arena is the Shaughnessy Park soccer field. This outdoor turf field was built in 2015 as a practice facility for the FIFA Women's World Cup. Today the facility is operated by the Winnipeg Soccer Federation, and rentable for not only soccer but other outdoor sports as well. 

Adjacent to the Arena and Soccer Complex is the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM). The Centre opened in 1990’s with a purpose to preserve and keep the Filipino culture alive. It offers a variety of services year-round.

Tyndall Park is conveniently close to two indoor pools. Eldon Ross Pool is situated in Brooklands and features water fitness programs, a pool slide, wading pool and is also rentable for private events.   The Seven Oaks Pool is located in the Maples and offers a universal family change room, accessible washrooms, a multipurpose room, teaching pool and an indoor spray pad.  The spray pad is the first of its kind in Winnipeg! The pool shares a parking lot with Maples Monarch Community Centre and the Maples Multiplex Arena. The complex and its fields are home to the annual Manitoba Filipino Street Festival and parade.

If you are looking for a fun indoor activity for your children, Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park is a great place to visit. This venue offers a great opportunity to burnout your children while letting them jump around a variety of areas.  They also host birthday parties and private events.

For adult fun, McPhillips Station Casino provides gaming, dining and entertainment.

Tyndall Park is also just a stone’s throw away to two movie theatres. Cinema City Northgate shows the latest Hollywood films at Northgate Shopping Centre, and offers Real 3D action. Scotiabank Theatre Winnipeg is situated at CF Polo Park and features a variety of new release movies with Real 3D, D-Box, ScreenX and IMAX Experience.
