Amber Trails

Amber Trails is a diverse, family-friendly neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Winnipeg. It offers nearly 40 acres of landscaped parks and recreation areas as well as an intertwining trail system that connects the three man-made lakes, parks and schools. 

The area is bordered by Leila Avenue on the south, Pipeline Road on the east, Mosselle Drive and Bitterfield Drive to the north and Amberstone Road to the West. The community is only three kilometers away from the Perimeter Highway, making it an ideal spot for those that like to escape the City to lake country.

Real Estate Trends

Amber Trails is a Genstar development that broke ground in the 1990’s. Homes in the neighbourhood were built between 1990 and 2015. You will find a mix of bungalows, two storeys, cab-overs and bi-level options.

Prices in the area for a single family detached home range from approximately $400,000 and go up to around $900,000.

There are some townhouse style condominium options in the area as well, priced between $280,000 - $450,000.

Schools & Services

Amber Trails is operated by the Seven Oaks School Division and there are two schools located within its borders.

Amber Trails Community School offers English programming from Kindergarten to Grade Eight and Punjabi bilingual programming from Kindergarten to Grade Two.  The school also provides daycare and free preschool programs for parents and their children from birth to age six.

École Leila North Community School is a Grade Six to Grade Eight school, with English and French Immersion programming. Students can attend both grade level and multi-aged classroom communities.

Amber Trails is in the catchment area for other schools in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

James Nisbet Community School is offering English programming from Kindergarten to Grade Six.

Arthur E. Wright Community School provides​​ English and Filipino bilingual programs from Kindergarten to Grade Six.

École Constable Edward Finney School is a Kindergarten to Grade Five School in the northwest corner of the Maples. French Immersion and English programming are available at all grade levels.

Students on the French Immersion track will continue their education at College Garden City Collegiate in neighbouring Garden City.

Students on the English track will likely attend Maples Collegiate. They can choose either a traditional academic route or explore vocational and alternative options.

Hospitals

Although there is no major hospital within the borders of Amber Trails, Seven Oaks General Hospital is located just 2 kilometers away from the community.

Shopping

Amber Trails is a quiet neighbourhood with no commercial development within its borders. However, residents can easily access public transit routes as well as the shops and services along McPhillips Street.

Garden City Shopping Centre is the closest mall in the area, located at the intersection of McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue. The Centre has a plethora of shops and services such as Winners, Bulk Barn, Canadian Tire, Seafood City, Michaels, banking options and so much more.

McPhillips Street also boasts a selection of grocery options like Walmart, the Real Canadian Superstore and Freshco.

Garden City Square has a number of big box stores such as Jysk, Marshalls, Home Sense and Home Depot.

Northgate Shopping Centre is a little bit further, but still within a 10-minute drive. It houses stores like Save on Foods, Dollarama, Carter’s Oshkosh, restaurants and more.

Entertainment & Recreation

The community has matured over the years with large trees and well-established landscaped parks and pathways.

Amber Gate Park and Amber Gate Trail are two major parks in the community divided by Novara Drive. Each park features a man-made lake and path that joins them together. Amber Gate Park features a playground which makes it popular for families with small children.

Leila Strasbourg Park is another favored hotspot for residents. With its playground, picnic shelter and open green space this is a great place to spend a summer afternoon.

In addition to the three major parks there are several small green spaces with walking paths and benches to enjoy the outdoors within the area. These include Dana Crescent Park, Amber Trails Path West and East and Moselle Green Space.

Are you searching for fitness options in the area? Canada’s leading medical fitness facility, The Wellness Institute is located at Seven Oaks General Hospital. The facility’s mission is to help to prevent illness and improve quality of life for those who develop chronic conditions. It provides a wide variety of services such as massage therapy, personal training, nutrition coaching, weight loss clinic, arthritis and joint replacement rehab, physiotherapy, chiropractic, mental health and online services and more.

There is also a Planet Fitness at Garden City Square if you prefer a smaller atmosphere to get your sweat on!

With the 2019 addition, the Seven Oaks Pool now offers a new universal family change room, accessible washrooms, a multipurpose room, teaching pool and an indoor spray pad.  The spray pad is the first of its kind in Winnipeg.

Maples Monarch Community Centre is a five-minute drive from the neighbourhood. The Centre houses indoor sports and has two outdoor basketball courts, two outdoor rinks, a jungle gym for children, a baseball diamond and other fields for cricket, hardball and soccer. Adjacent to the Community Centre is the Maples Multiplex Arena. It operates a league-sized rink from September to March and hosts hockey and ringette practices, league games and tournaments. In the summer it is available for social events and indoor sports.

Garden City Community Centre and Seven Oaks Sportsplex is also in close proximity to the area. It offers a wide variety of sport programs all year-round such as baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, ringette, softball, rocky rugby and more. Seven Oaks Sportsplex consists of the Seven Oaks Arena and the Seven Oaks Soccer Complex. Seven Oaks Arena houses two NHL-size ice rinks, a walking track and a multipurpose room for fitness classes, social, educational and cultural events.

Do you want entertainment that doesn’t require so much physical activity? We highly recommend catching a movie at the Cinema City Northgate Theatre at Northgate Shopping Centre.

Amber Trails is a very diverse, affluent neighbourhood. Although the community itself doesn’t have a lot of shopping and dining to offer within its borders, that keeps the area quiet and family-friendly.  The neighbouring areas boast authentic stores and restaurants and they are only few minutes’ drives from anywhere in Amber Trails.

Punjab Grocery & Convenience Store is an Indian grocery store at 668 Sheppard St. It is a great place for daily needs and for special occasions.

Lucky Supermarket offers fresh produce and a wide selection of Asian products. It is located at 1303 Jefferson Ave.

Are you craving something sweet or do you want to surprise your family with a beautiful cake? Mithi Bread is known for its uniquely designed cakes and affordable sweets. This small gem can be found at 202 Daylan Marshall Gate, in Leila North.

Chungchun Rice Dog Maples is a local favorite restaurant, specializing in Korean style hot dogs.  

Did you know that Amber Trails has a little farmers market?  Amber Trails Farm is a student-run organic farm at Amber Trails Community School. Every single delicious vegetable is grown by the children attending the school. The Farmer’s Market is open during the summer.
